Dear Sande,
We write you this letter from the bottom of our hearts to express our gratitude for everything that you have done with our son Juanito. When he arrived at New Directions For Kids with his diagnosis of autism we felt lost and scared. At that time, we did not know how to communicate with him as he was not very verbal and had lots of sensory necessities we didn’t yet comprehend.
With your help, he did an 180° turn, thanks to your patience and professionalism. The therapy sessions you gave him have helped him be more expressive, more independent and overall more open to interact with others in a way that we once believed to be impossible. Today, he knows how to express what he feels and needs without becoming so frustrated, which is something so valuable.
Visiting you once a week for years became something Juan looked forward to. Thank you for being someone so kind and understanding for him. Thank you for walking beside us during all of these years. We don’t know where we would be without your guidance and constant support.
With deep gratitude,
Sandra Rutstein, OTR/L has been instrumental in Weston’s development, helping him make tremendous progress in both his gross and fine motor skills. When we first started seeing Ms. Sande, we were primarily focused on Weston’s handwriting, but I soon realized he had significant delays in his gross motor skills as well.
Since beginning therapy, his handwriting has become much neater and more controlled, and his gross motor skills have improved significantly. Beyond these areas, Ms. Sande consistently works on his social, visual-motor, and perceptual skills. She is incredibly knowledgeable and truly cares about the success and well-being of every child she treats.
New Directions for Kids has been a great addition to our family. We have been part of this family for 2 years now and have seen & felt a great difference, from balancing to social skills. Sandy has been a great teacher, partner, therapist and friend. She is very knowledgeable and caring. She always has great conversation, suggestions and advice. New Directions for Kids has been the best decision for our little family. Thanks to all the staff for making it work so wonderfully. Without people like you we can’t move forward. It is a community, family & caring addition to our future kids.
Thank you for all you do. We are so grateful and blessed to have you.
Best wishes always,
Dear OT Place,
I have loved some cool things here.I learned how to write and found my love of some sports.I have made friends here but my best has to be meeting Jayden. I am very sad to be leaving him. There are really other things I’ve learned here that I can’t explain. I really like this place! It feels good, but I’m also sad about leaving this place.
Thank you Sande for helping me all these years.
Our daughter has been going to New Directions going on 3 years and we are so pleased with all the progress! Our little one has sensory issues as well as Auditory Processing. These were things that we had never heard of and Miss Sande was a great help in guiding us and providing tools for us to help our daughter! We are grateful for New Directions and look forward to seeing all the obstacles our child will overcome.
Before I started I had some problems but after I went here I’ve become calmer and my handwriting has gotten a lot better. I like the swings here, they are entertaining and calming. This place has helped me a bunch.
My 11-year-old son is a client of New Directions For Kids. Working with Sande has helped improve his impulse control, self-awareness, social skills, and overall confidence. Sande’s incorporation of Harry Potter has been vital in my son’s progress. I am so grateful for the sincere care and consideration Sande has for all his individual needs.
Both of my children have flourished since meeting Sande. My son had gained confidence in his spatial awareness and trying new tasks. His ability to write has come along way since working with Sande. He actually enjoys doing games and worksheets now. My daughter has also grown a lot with her time here. She has learned skills to overcome some Sensory issues like wearing socks and trying different foods.
Isaiah continues to make improvements with his communication, self-regulation, and emotional management skills based on his work at New Directions for kids.
My daughter started at NDFK when she was 8 and just diagnosed with ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorder. She had wild mood swings, a short attention span, and not much coordination or awareness of her body. Going to NDFK once a week for 2 years has really helped her mind and become more focused. It has helped in areas I did not anticipate, such as handwriting, social skills, and even car sickness. It is a playful and fun
approach to supporting her needs!
There are not enough words to express how grateful my family is with the OT services my son has been receiving from Sande over the past 5 1/2 years. Sande has taught us so much about sensory needs and fine motor issues to help make our son succeed. We have seen so much grow in our son over the last five years. Our son currently is handling his academic load well. Our son enjoys every session with Sande and it has made, and continues to make such a huge impact on our family and our son’s lives.
Sande is so great with Cavan and how to handle any difficulties that may arise during sessions. She works with him on difficult tasks but also has praise when he does a good job. WE have been coming for about a year and the overall progress has been great for his confidence and skills. Cavan always looks forward to his time with Sande.
Since seeing Sande, my 4.5 year old son has learned to dress himself, use a spoon, and ride a bike! These are all things that he struggled with, due to motor planning issues. He is also more open to trying new foods, and his speech has become much more conversational with longer sentences and insightful questions. Sande really cares about her clients and has been a great member of out sons "Team."
Sande Rutstein is lovely and has really helped my daughter with non-spectrum sensory processing issues. She was affordable for out-of-pocket assessment and treatment. She works with parents very well around scheduling and meeting children's needs. My daughter has learned several self-calming techniques and how to cope in challenging situations. We are grateful for everyone at New Directions for Kids!
Since starting Occupational Therapy Hunter is now tolerating his feet getting wet and sandy at the beach and is much more confident riding his bike and climbing on play structures at the park
